Ceylon Green Vibe Creation unveils ambitious investment vision for Sri Lankan cinema

Ceylon Green Vibe Creation is embarking on an ambitious investment drive to build an integrated cinema ecosystem in Sri Lanka, combining large-scale film production, technologically advanced smart cinemas and a new distribution network with a longer-term push into international markets. The company plans to produce 10 high-quality feature films within a year, while establishing fully equipped smart cinemas in key cities across the country. Ceylon Green Life Plantation (Pvt) Ltd Founder and Chairman Dr. Malan Francis Peters said the broader vision is to strengthen Sri Lanka’s capacity to produce films using advanced technology that can compete with international productions and gain access to overseas cinema markets. Ceylon Green Vibe Creation, an affiliated entity of Ceylon Green Life Plantation, plans to draw on the knowledge and expertise of international cinema technology specialists for its smart cinema initiative.

Its production pipeline brings together established filmmakers and emerging creative talent. The company’s first production, ‘Old Man’, is written and directed by veteran filmmaker Kumar Thirimadura, while ‘18 Wanguwa’ is directed by award-winning filmmaker Dr. Somaratne Dissanayake. Popular actress Shalani Tharaka has completed ‘Premiye’, marking her directorial debut. The company has also entered into an agreement with leading actor Ranjan Ramanayake for a major production. Dr. Peters said the investment strategy extends beyond producing and screening films. The company is undertaking studies to establish a new film distribution network alongside its planned smart cinemas, creating a more integrated platform for producing, distributing and exhibiting local films. The ultimate objective is to position Sri Lankan cinema more competitively internationally, showcasing the country’s natural beauty and creative talent while opening new avenues to generate foreign exchange through the global cinema market.
