ATF Under-14 Tennis Week 1: Sri Lanka’s Samaira and Revaan emerge champions

Two Sri Lankan youngsters, Samaira Fernando and Revaan Amarasinghe, emerged as the girls’ and boys’ singles champions at the ATF Under-14 Tennis Week 1 tournament after winning their respective finals played at the SLTA tennis courts in Greenpath, Colombo, yesterday.

Samaira overcame Saumya Chaudhary of India with ease, winning by two sets to nil. Earlier, Samaira defeated Anandita Sarkar of India 2–0 in the quarter-finals before brushing aside the challenge of compatriot Sethuli Muthugama in a closely contested semi-final encounter, winning 2–1.

Revaan had an equally smooth run against Ho Fung Choi of Hong Kong, securing a comfortable two-sets-to-nil victory. Earlier in the tournament, Revaan defeated two other Hong Kong players, Owen Cheung and Oliver Lau, in the quarter-final and semi-final stages by identical 2–0 margins.

The ATF Under-14 tournament is conducted by the Asian Tennis Federation and hosted by the Sri Lanka Tennis Association. The Week 2 tournament is scheduled to get underway today.
