Alcohol production and consumption rise in Sri Lanka

Alcohol consumption is increasing in Sri Lanka, the Alcohol and Drug Information Centre stated.

Data for 2025 shows local beer production rose by 5% and liquor production by 17%.

The Centre noted that stable alcohol prices since early 2024 have contributed to higher consumption.

It stated that increased purchasing power has driven demand despite inflation.

Excise revenue has increased, while past tax hikes led to reduced sales volumes, the Centre noted.
