500kg Christmas cake mixture prepared at Gregory Lake

The Araliya Hotel Group prepared a 500kg Christmas cake mixture at Gregory Lake in Nuwara Eliya on October 23, as part of its preparations to welcome tourists during the upcoming Christmas season. The event was organised by the management, staff and chefs of three hotels in the group: Araliya Green Hills, Araliya Green City and Araliya Red.

The cake mixture was brought to Gregory Lake in a colourful procession that started from the three hotels. Hotel staff, local and foreign tourists and security personnel joined in preparing the mixture. Araliya Hotel Group General Manager Dinesh Lokuyaddige said tourists would have the opportunity to taste the Christmas cake at midnight on December 24, 2026.

Executive Chef Sanjuwa Prematunga said 25 ingredients were used to prepare the mixture. These included 18 bottles of brandy, 10 bottles of wine, cashews, almonds, sultanas, red and green cherries, dried apricots, dates and preserved ginger. The initiative aims to add to the Christmas celebrations in Nuwara Eliya and offer visitors a special seasonal treat.
