2000-2026: Rehab Bureau records 2 suicides

The Bureau of Rehabilitation has recorded a total of two suicides during the period from the year 2000 to this year (2026) within its rehabilitation centres. Both the deceased were male and the method employed was hanging.

Regarding the mental health and suicide prevention measures undertaken by the Bureau, the latter informed in response to a Right to Information request that it implemented preventive and supportive measures through counselling officers serving at the centres. The counselling and psychosocial support are provided to persons undergoing rehabilitation with particular attention to persons experiencing suicidal thoughts, emotional distress or other psychological difficulties. Where such concerns are identified, counselling sessions are, according to the Bureau, focused on addressing suicidal thoughts and related concerns, providing appropriate emotional and psychological support, and conducting necessary follow-up counselling.
