Sri Lanka engages with ICC over Interim Cricket administration as government pledges support

Minister of Sports Sunil Kumara Gamage announced that Sri Lanka is actively engaging with the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding the appointment of an interim committee or empowered official to oversee Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

The government is pursuing this matter urgently, with the President personally intervening to facilitate discussions. Minister Gamage emphasised that the government has already completed several phases of a strategic plan aimed at uplifting Sri Lankan cricket and securing future victories.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing the sport and indicated that ongoing discussions with the ICC are part of a broader effort to strengthen the game and prevent the country from being banned from international cricket.

The Minister stated that the government is working on the structural framework for a new administrative setup, stressing that their interventions are aimed at ensuring the sport’s continuity and growth.

“The government’s duty is to uplift cricket, and we will take the necessary actions for its progress,” Gamage said, highlighting the President’s keen involvement in these efforts.
