SL Women’s U-19 take on Malaysia at Asia Cup opener

Sri Lanka women’s under 19 team led by Manudi Nanayakkara is ready to take on challenge at the inaugural Asia Cup. They are taking part in training to adjust to the conditions before the Asia Cup in Malaysia.

The inaugural Asia Cup women’s under 19 tournament consisted of six teams scheduled to be played from December 15 to 22. Sri Lanka women’s under 19 team left to Malaysia on December 2 two weeks before the tournament. They played two practice matches against Malaysia under 18 boys Invitation X1 and Malaysia senior women’s team and won both matches.

Sri Lanka under 19 women’s team defeated Malaysia under 18 boys Invitation X1 by 27 runs in their first practice game. Skipper Manudi Nananyakkara scored a match winning knock of 42 in 31 balls with 2 fours and 4 sixes guided to get their first victory. Sri Lankan lasses scored 130 for 8 wickets in 20 overs while Malaysia under 18 boys team managed to get 103 all out in 20 overs.

Hiruni Hansika was the most successful bowler taking 3 for 4 including a hat-trick while Danuli Tennakoon took 2 for 8.

Meanwhile Sri Lanka lasses made an easy 123 runs win over Malaysia senior women’s team in their practice game.

Sri Lanka women’s under 19 scored 175 for 4 wickets in 20 overs while Opener Hiruni Hansika made 53-ball 67 with 5 fours and 4 sixes and Rasmika Sewwandi hit an unbeaten 41 in 20 balls with 3 fours and 3 sixes guided build up their total.

Malaysia senior women’s team were struggling 52 for 8 wickets in 16.3 overs. Dahemi Senethma 2 for 3 and Shashini Gimhani 2 for 7 took bowling honors for Sri Lanka women’s team.

Sri Lanka, Malaysia and Bangladesh are in the same group ‘B’ in this Asia Cup under 19 tournament while India, Pakistan and Nepal are in Group ‘A’.

Sri Lanka will meet Malaysia in their first group match on opening day December 15 while the game against Bangladesh will be played on following day. The super four round matches will commence from December 19 and the final will be played on December 22.
