Sri Lanka’s top seed Men’s Single shuttler Viren Nettasinghe won the bronze medal at HUNDRED Sri Lanka International Challenge 2025 which concluded yesterday at the St. Joseph’s College Indoor Complex in Darley Road, Colombo.
Nettasinghe was the only Sri Lankan player to reach semi final in this tournament but after losing the crucial semi-final clash against Malaysia’s Sholeh Aidil had to be satisfied with bronze medal. Nettasinghe the world rank 71 player, who maintained an unbeaten run in the Men’s Singles, was outsmarted by the top ranked Malaysian, who recorded a straight win in the first of the Men’s Singles semi-finals. Aidil the world rank 68 player and Nettasinghe had a tough fight but finally Malaysian shuttler won the game with 21-16, 21-18.
At the men’s single final Malaysian Aidil came forward to win two straight sets 21-19, 21-15 over Indian shuttler Praney Katta to win the gold medal.
The women’s singles final won by Japanese shuttler Manami Suizu defeating Indian player Adita Rao with a hard fought two setter game 21-12, 27-25.
Following the HUNDRED Sri Lanka International Challenge 2025, which offers a total prize money of USD 17,500, Sri Lanka Badminton (SLB) will proceed with its second global competition – the HUNDRED Sri Lanka International Series 2025 at the same venue, St. Joseph’s College Indoor Complex from today. The Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Asia (BA) sanctioned six-day tournament will continue until next Saturday. A total prize money of USD 5,000 will be on offer at the HUNDRED Sri Lanka International Series 2025 which is sponsored by HUNDRED, Mobil, McFoil, 3M and Rovin.
