The Hambantota Regional Junior Open Golf Championship, organized by Sri Lanka Golf and sponsored by PRIMA, Sunrise Bread will tee off at the Shangri-La Hambantota golf course this Friday, with the practice round beginning on Thursday. The tournament marks a return to Hambantota after a five-year break, and will run until October 20.
This three-day junior event features top Sri Lankan golfers, including leading WAGR rankers Kaya Daluwatte, who is based in India, and Reshan Algama, fresh from his appearance at the Asia Pacific Amateur Golf Championship in Japan. The tournament is one of the three key junior golf events of the year, attracting a strong field of 55 players, including 15 female golfers, across four divisions: Gold, Silver, Bronze, and Copper.
In the Gold Division, players like Reshan Algama, Jevahn Sathasivam, Yannik Kumara, and Jacob Norton are ready for an intense battle. In the female category, top-ranked Kaya Daluwatte will play against Dhanushi Wanasinghe and several key players.
The Silver Division will see Kaiyan Johnpillai, Adithya Weerasinghe, and Thejas Rathis Kanth vying for the boys’ championship as top players, while Kaitlyn Norton and Sithara Lorance are the top contenders in the girls’ category.
In the Bronze Division, Revaan Amarasinghe and Lavidu Premaratne are expected to have a close contest in the boys’ segment, while Vihara Herath, Genuli Weerakoon, and Nimasha Iddamalgoda will compete for the girls’ title. The Copper Division will feature young golfers like Jaeden Sathasivam and Yuvan Rathis Kanth in the boys’ competition, while three girls will also compete in their division.
