Melwa, recently organised a workshop for Technical Officers of the Polonnaruwa District, held at the Roo Inn Chaya Hotel in Polonnaruwa.
The event saw the participation of nearly 100 technical officers. This initiative aims to help these workers achieve the nationally recognised National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level Three certification.
Nearly 200 masons and welders took part in this training programme, which was fully sponsored by Melwa. The programme covered essential skills and knowledge, such as the proper use of steel wire and Galvanized Iron (GI) pipes using the correct techniques in construction. At the end of the training, participants were awarded valuable certificates by Melwa, recognising their newly acquired skills. Moreover, Melwa provided selected participants with both the necessary training and financial support to obtain the NVQ Level Three national certificate, which is issued by theNational Vocational Training Authority. To further support the participants, Melwa presented each mason and welder with a set of high-quality tools. This initiative is part of a series of programmes that Melwa is implementing across the country, with the aim of providing construction workers in Sri Lanka the opportunity to receive proper professional training and earn a nationally and internationally recognised qualification. Having a recognised professional qualificationsuch as an NVQ, in addition to hands-on experience, enhances employment prospects both locally and abroad.
