Filling the growing demand for nonstop services often means launching a new route, and yesterday, Jetstar Asia did just that with a new service between Singapore and Sri Lanka. When the new route opens in November, Jetstar Asia said it will be the only low-cost carrier to fly nonstop from Singapore to Colombo, the largest city and financial center of Sri Lanka.
Nonstop and low-fare
While Jetstar Asia certainly won't be the only airline flying nonstop between Singapore and Colombo, it will be the only low-cost carrier on the route, opening seamless connections into the Jetstar network and one-stop flights to Australia. Jetstar Asia (Jetstar) will operate five return services weekly using Airbus A320s, injecting more than 90,000 low-fare seats between the two destinations annually.
To give customers greater choice, the airline is offering a split schedule with morning and evening departures from Singapore Changi Airport (SIN). This will allow seamless connections to the daily Jetstar Airways Boeing 787 flight to and from Melbourne Airport (MEL) or up to six weekly flights from Perth Airport (PER).
Jetstar Asia CEO John Simeone said that as the gateway to Sri Lanka, Colombo is the perfect destination for those looking for adventure, a romantic getaway or a family holiday. He also noted that this new route demonstrates the airline's commitment to introducing exciting new destinations, adding:
"Sri Lanka is a vibrant destination known for its stunning scenery and warm hospitality and is a must-visit place for many. With our incredible low fares, we're excited to enable more people to experience this wonderful country with its stunning beaches, delicious food and fascinating history and culture."
Sri Lanka is a popular tourist destination that has recovered particularly well from the pandemic. The new Jetstar route will give travelers from Sri Lanka a nonstop service to Singapore and the opportunity to connect through Changi Airport to Southeast Asia, Australia and the rest of the Asia-Pacific.
Convenient connections at SIN
The five-time weekly return flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Jetstar Asia flight 3K331 will depart from Singapore Changi on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 21:00 and arrive in Sri Lanka at Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) at 22:30.
The return flight 3K332 leaves on the same day at 23:30 and will be back in Singapore at 06:00 on the following day. On Thursday and Sunday, flight 3K333 departs Singapore Changi at 08:55 and arrives in Colombo at 10:30, with the return flight 3K334 leaving at 11:30 and arriving in Singapore at 18:00.
Singapore-based Jetstar Asia (3K) is a member of the Jetstar Group, which includes Qantas Group low-cost subsidiary Jetstar Airways, Jetstar Asia and Jetstar Japan. It has a fleet of 11 Airbus A320-200s configured in an all-economy layout of 180 seats with an average age of 12.6 years.
Jetstar Airways (JQ) operates widebody services using a fleet of 11 Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners configured with 335 seats, including business class seats for international services or all-economy for domestic flights. The Australian-based airline also has 53 Airbus A320-200s and 21 Airbus A321 LRs, operating the new-generation aircraft on a mix of domestic and international flights.
