Suresh Dharmasena made history by clinching a stunning triple championship at the ITF Uniqlo Wheelchair Tennis Tour in Sri Lanka, which concluded yesterday at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) courts in Colombo. Dominating the singles events at the Negombo Open, Colombo Open, and Sri Lanka Open, Dharmasena proved his supremacy in one of the biggest international wheelchair tennis tournaments with significant prize money.
The prestigious tour featured three major events: the Negombo Open from February 11 to 14, the Colombo Open from February 16 to 19, and the Sri Lanka Open from February 21 to 24. Dharmasena excelled, emerging victorious in all three singles finals.
In the doubles category, Dharmasena partnered with Gamini Dissanayake to win the Colombo Open title. However, they were runners-up in the doubles events at both the Negombo Open and Sri Lanka Open.
The tournament attracted top wheelchair tennis players from South Korea, Japan, Australia, Kazakhstan, India, and Sri Lanka. The competition was intense, but Dharmasena’s powerful serves and tactical brilliance set him apart from his rivals.
The ITF Uniqlo Wheelchair Tennis Tour, organized by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and sponsored by Uniqlo, received praise for its high standards and excellent management.
