DH Ceylon Energy Pvt Ltd unveils Project Apollo: A 110MW Solar Park to power Sri Lanka’s renewable energy future

DH Ceylon Energy Pvt Ltd, a subsidiary of Ceylon Energy (PTE) Ltd and DH Energy (SG) PTE. LTD Singapore in a landmark collaboration with Southern Nexus Pvt Ltd, proudly announces the inauguration of Project Apollo, a transformative 110MW solar park located in Hambanthota, Sri Lanka. With an investment of USD 82 million, this groundbreaking initiative positions Sri Lanka at the forefront of the renewable energy revolution, offering a significant leap toward a more sustainable energy landscape.

This project will feature an innovative 11x10MW Ground Mounted Solar Project at the Gonnoruwa Solar Energy Park, a state-of-the-art development that will power thousands of homes and industries with clean, renewable energy. The park will play a critical role in bolstering Sri Lanka’s energy grid while reducing the country’s carbon footprint—demonstrating DH Ceylon Energy’s commitment to addressing both the local and global energy challenges of the 21st century.

Project Apollo is much more than just a solar park; it represents a bold vision for the future of energy in Sri Lanka. This initiative is part of the larger FL Business Model, as outlined in the “Report of the Way Forward for Integration of Renewable Energy Resources to the National Grid from 2023 to 2026”, which has been approved by the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) and endorsed by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB). The project is expected to pave the way for the accelerated integration of renewable energy sources into Sri Lanka’s national grid, marking a significant step in the country's journey toward energy independence and sustainability.

As part of this business model, Project Apollo is set to directly contribute to the government’s ambitious targets for renewable energy generation. By 2030, Sri Lanka aims to generate 70% of its electricity from renewable sources, and Project Apollo’s 110MW capacity will play a crucial role in meeting this goal. The project highlights the collaboration between private enterprise and the government, demonstrating the potential for partnerships to drive the transition to a cleaner energy future.

The environmental benefits of Project Apollo are substantial. The solar park is expected to reduce 165,600 tons of CO2 emissions annually, equivalent to removing tens of thousands of cars from the roads each year. Over the course of 20 years, this reduction will amount to an impressive 3,301,200 tons of CO2 emissions avoided. This is a significant contribution to Sri Lanka’s climate action plan and aligns with global efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
