Atlas extends SipSavi Scholarship Program reinforcing dedication to supporting deserving children in Sri Lanka
Atlas, the
premier learning brand in Sri Lanka has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
with the Department of Probation and Child Care Services under the Ministry of
Women and Child Affairs recently, to extend the company's commitment to the Atlas
SipSavi Scholarship Program for the next five years, reinforcing its dedication
to supporting underprivileged children in Sri Lanka.
During the signing ceremony Asitha Samaraweera, Managing Director, Atlas Axillia Co., and Gayani Kaushalya Wijesinghe, Commissioner, Department of Probation and Child Care Services, formalized the partnership. The event was also graced by the presence of K. Mahesan, Secretary, Ministry of Women, Child, Youth Affairs and Sports.
The SipSavi Scholarship Program addresses a critical need in Sri Lanka, where more than 20,000 children have discontinued their education due to financial difficulties. Atlas has committed to providing educational materials and a monthly allowance to selected children throughout the five-year period.
The Atlas SipSavi Scholarship project was initiated in 2019, and driven by the overarching goal of ‘No child left behind,’ a comprehensive scheme designed to champion equitable learning experiences for underprivileged children.
The MoU proudly presents the commencement of the second chapter in the Sipsavi Financial Scholarship Project. The continuation reflects Atlas’s enduring commitment to building educational opportunities and empowering promising students.
The five-year continuous support program addresses multiple facets of educational challenges through three core pillars. Firstly, Atlas provides essential school supplies and materials, effectively removing barriers to educational access. Secondly, the program extends monthly financial assistance to families, alleviating economic burdens that might otherwise impede a child's education. Lastly, SipSavi actively invests in improving school infrastructure, enhancing classrooms, libraries, and recreational spaces to foster a joyful learning environment.
Collaborating with government bodies, the program ensures effective implementation and sustainable impact. Through these concerted efforts, Atlas SipSavi strives to create a level playing field in education, particularly benefiting children in rural and marginalized communities.
The initiative builds on Atlas's long-standing commitment to social responsibility. In previous years, the Atlas SipSavi Program has positively impacted thousands of children, including a recent initiative that supported 300 deserving students with monthly financial support, committed for five years.
Asitha Samaraweera, Managing Director, Atlas Axillia Co., stated, “Through the SipSavi program, we are providing scholarships and investing in the future of Sri Lanka by empowering its youth. We believe education is the cornerstone of progress, and every child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow, thus collaboration between the public and private sectors is crucial in addressing the educational needs of our most vulnerable children.”
The Atlas SipSavi Scholarship Program aims to create a more inclusive society by breaking down financial barriers to education. Providing sustained support over five years, Atlas hopes to see more children complete their education and reach their full potential.
