Army swimmers clinch three titles at Open Water Championships

Army Sports Club (Army SC), under the expert guidance of swimming legend Dr. Ghefari Dulapandan,clinched a triple at the Annual Open Water Sea Swimming Championship, organized by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU), which concluded at the Beach Park in Port City Colombo on Sunday.

Army SC captured three out of the four championship trophies in the two-day meet. Army SC’s swimmers delivered exceptional performances across the board. In the women’s 10km Open Water race, N.H.A. De Silva of Army SC clinched the gold.

In the men’s 10km Open Water race, Army SC also reigned supreme. The club’s overall winner in this category displayed tremendous stamina and skill, securing the top spot, while R.B.D. Niroshana finished third. The men’s 5km Open Water race saw another strong showing from R.B.D.. Niroshana, who finished third in a competitive field. His consistent performances across the 5km and 10km events were key to Army SC’s success at the Championship.

Dr. Dulapandan expressed his pride in the team’s results, saying, “This achievement is a proof to the swimmers’ discipline, dedication, and relentless hard work. Their performances are the result of serious training and a commitment to excellence.”

Army SC’s outstanding showing, winning three out of the four major trophies, highlights the club’s dominance in open water swimming. Their athletes have proven their mettle, with each swimmer pushing boundaries to secure victories and contribute to the club’s triumph.
