The highly anticipated 109th Sri Lanka Tennis Nationals will take place at Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts and four other venues from August 16 to September 1. This prestigious event serves as a platform for tennis players across the country to showcase their talent.
Every year Sri Lanka Tennis Nationals, attract players hailing from all corners of the country. The entries for this year’s event closed on Monday. The matches will now commence on August 16 and conclude on September 1. Competitions will take place across 17 clay courts spread across multiple esteemed venues, including SLTA Courts, SLTA Playing Section, Sinhalese Sports Club, Police Tennis Court and the Government Servant Tennis Club.
The Tournament Referee for the 109th Sri Lanka Nationals will be Chamod Ruppassara, an ITF White Badge Referee and ITF White Badge Chair Umpire. The matches will be officiated by a team of highly qualified umpires, who have attained National and Pre-National Level Officiating certifications with the extensive experience from both major international tournaments and prominent local competitions.
The tournament will encompass various competitive categories, ranging from Under-12 to Men’s and Women’s events, inclusive of the Senior Nationals and Wheelchair Nationals categories and players from all regions will be taking part in this tournament, demonstrating the depth of talent across Sri Lanka. The inclusion of Senior Events (over 35, 45, 55, 65) and Wheelchair Events embodies the commitment to promoting inclusivity, diversity, and lifelong participation in sports. These events celebrate the enduring passion and dedication of senior athletes while highlighting the resilience and competitive spirit of wheelchair players.
A hallmark of the Nationals is the presentation of 17 Challenge Trophies generously provided by supporters to honor the champions in each age category. These trophies will be awarded to the Junior National Champions in their respective age categories, as well as in the Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed Doubles events. “These trophies symbolize more than victory; they represent the unwavering dedication and passion for the sport shared by our community of well-wishers, encouraging the development of young athletes and celebrating excellence in tennis across all age groups and categories,” a release signed by SLTA president Iqbal Bin Issack said.
