Harpic, the leading hygiene brand in Sri Lanka, is committed to its social responsibility campaign ‘Suwa Jana Meheyuma’ which aims to uplift the sanitary standards of lavatories in girls’ schools and create awareness about proper hygiene habits among young girls. The second program under this campaign was held at Minuwangoda Nalanda Balika Vidyalaya, on May 23, 2023.
The program is in collaboration with the Ministry of Education in Sri Lanka and is part of a seriesof educational programs that Harpic is organizing across the Western Province. The first program was held on March 7, 2023, at Ambathale Samudradevi Balika Vidyalaya, to coincide with International Women’s Day.
The aim of the program is to bridge the awareness gap among school-going girls on the importance of maintaining proper hygiene practices, particularly in toilets. With the continuing pandemic situation, Harpic believes that it is essential to educate and create awareness about hygiene practices, especially among young girls who may be vulnerable to potential health risks.

“Our goal is to continue to raise awareness on the importance of toilet hygiene and to encourage the adoption of good hygiene habits among school girls in the Western Province. Through our educational programs and professional lectures, we hope to bridge the awareness gap and empower young girls with the knowledge and tools they need to maintain proper hygiene practices,” she added.
The educational program will include cleaning, disinfecting, and renovating of school toilet facilities, along with a series of professional lectures delivered by a Medical Officer of Health, highlighting the potential health implications and risks that young women may face in unclean toilets.
