Perera extends lead, Ranasinghe surges forward

Royal Colombo Golf Club’s Uchitha Ranasinghe displayed stunning performance on Day Three of the first National Ranking Tournament (NRT) for the year, returning the best score of the day with an impressive gross score of 75. This achievement propelled him into the third position in the overall standings. The day’s play faced a slight delay of 30 minutes due to extreme weather conditions at Nuwara Eliya Golf Club. Despite the challenges posed by rain, mist, and cold weather, the golfers persevered through the third round yesterday.

Chanaka Perera continued to dominate the tournament with a notable gross score of 79, bringing his aggregate gross score to 226. Chalitha Pushpika from the Sri Lanka Navy closely followed with a gross score of 76 and an aggregate gross score of 232, trailing Perera by six shots. Priya Hemantha from VGC, who started the day in a promising position, slipped to fourth place after carding a gross score of 81 and an aggregate gross score of 242.HLS Sanathchandra, the top golfer from the Army, maintained his fifth position with a solid gross score of 81. Air force golfer PDSU Kumara returned a score of 85.In the ladies’ category, RMAC Rathnayake emerged as the front-runner with an aggregate gross score of 311.

As the tournament progresses, anticipation builds for the final day of play, set to commence today at 8:15 am. Golf enthusiasts eagerly await to see who will emerge victorious in this closely contested National Ranking Tournament.
